Professional Education
The Georgia Poison Center (GPC) is a training
site for health care professionals. Emergency
Medicine and Pediatric Residents from Emory
University and Morehouse University train at the GPC
for up to one month. During this period, the
Residents have the opportunity to see how the Poison
Center operates and become familiar with the
resources that are available in the Center.
Residents may also consult on poisoned patients
admitted to local health care facilities.
Emory
University Environmental and Occupational Medicine
(EOM) residents meet weekly with GPC toxicologists
to review occupational and environmental calls. An
EOM Resident provides 24-hour, on-call consultations
to the SPIs and physicians who have inquiries about
occupational/environmental exposures.
Fourth year
Mercer University, University of Georgia, and
University of South Carolina pharmacy students are
also trained at the GPC. Students are introduced to
the topic of clinical toxicology through one-on-one
tutorials and hands-on activity with the guidance of
toxicologists and CSPIs.
