Poison Prevention Training

The Poison Prevention Education Program is designed to train safety advocates to teach poison prevention to children and adults in Georgia. The goal is to increase the number of Georgians who have the knowledge and skills to prevent and manage unintentional poisoning.

Target Audience: SafeKids coalition members, safety advocates, nurses, pharmacists, health educators, childcare providers, public safety professionals and anyone interested in promoting poison prevention activities in their communities.

Prerequisites: None

Format: Online

Objectives: Upon completion of the poison prevention training program participants will be able to:

  1. To learn about the history and role of America’s Poison Centers and specifics about the Georgia Poison Center.
  2. To define poison and to give a better understanding of who gets poisoned and risk factors to be familiar with.
  3. To learn basic information about potential poisons and how to help prevent a poisoning from occurring.
  4. To recognize and respond appropriately to a poison exposure.
  5. To learn how to easily and effectively share poison prevention information with your community.

 

Continuing Education Credits:

EMS:
This education activity was approved by the GA Office of EMS for 3.0 contact hours.

This education activity was approved by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council for 3.0 contact hours.

Nursing:
This activity has been approved for 3 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development. Licensed nurses must view the presentation in its entirety and successfully pass the post-test in order to receive contact hours. Contact hours will be provided through the Georgia Department of Public Health. Georgia Department of Public Health is an approved provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. No influential financial relationships have been disclosed by planners or presenters which would influence the planning of this activity. No commercial support has influenced the planning of the education objectives and content of this activity. This activity is eligible to award contact hours until 02/27/2025.
